Contact

There is no contact form on this site. There is one address, and it reaches the whole editorial team:

hello@failsafehome.com

We read everything and reply when we can. We are a small team, so we cannot promise a turnaround time, and we would rather say that plainly than quote a forty-eight hour response window we would miss half the time. Messages that need an answer usually get one. Messages that do not need an answer still get read.

Corrections come first

If a number on this site is wrong, we want to know. That is the message that jumps the queue. This site’s entire argument is that arithmetic beats marketing, and that argument only works if our arithmetic is right. A wrong wattage, a stale price, a code requirement we described sloppily, a runtime figure that does not survive a sanity check: send it.

It helps enormously if you include the page you are talking about, the sentence or figure in question, and what you believe the correct answer is. A source is welcome but not required. A nameplate photo, a manufacturer spec sheet, a line from a manual or a code section all make it much faster for us to verify and fix. If you are simply telling us something smells wrong, that is fine too. We would rather chase a false alarm than leave a bad figure standing.

When we change something material, we fix the page and note the correction on it. That is written into our editorial policy and we intend to keep it.

Other things worth writing about

  • Article requests. If you looked for something on this site and it was not here, tell us what you searched for. Gaps reported by readers tend to be better ideas than anything a keyword tool produces.
  • Your own numbers. Real measured loads, real fuel burn, real well recovery rates from a real property are more useful to us than another spec sheet. We will not publish anything identifying without asking you first.
  • Broken things. Dead links, pages that will not load, a table that turns to soup on a phone.
  • Privacy questions. Requests about the data this site collects go to the same address; the details are on our privacy policy page.

What we will not answer

We cannot design your system for you by email, and we will not try. Sizing a standby generator, laying out a transfer switch, or deciding whether your service panel can take a particular load are jobs for someone who can see the panel, read the label, and sign their name to the work. If you write to us with those questions, the honest answer we can give is what to ask a licensed contractor and which numbers to have ready before you call one.

We also do not give medical advice of any kind, and we cannot help with an emergency in progress. If you are dealing with a suspected carbon monoxide exposure, a gas smell, a fire, or anyone who is confused, unresponsive or struggling to breathe, stop reading and call your local emergency number. The reasoning behind that line is set out in full on our disclaimer.

Pitches, guest posts and link requests

Unsolicited guest posts are declined. Paid links and paid placements are declined, whatever they are called in the subject line, and we do not sell mentions inside existing articles. If you make something in this space and want us to look at it, say what it does and what it does not do, and skip the adjectives; the parts of a product that fail or annoy are the parts we are most interested in. Being sent a product does not buy a recommendation, and our commercial relationships are described on the affiliate disclosure page.
